Welcome!
From constantly getting sick, having asthma, and skin issues with eczema and acne, prioritizing my mental and physical health has changed my life. I’ve always been passionate about nutrition, mental health, and creating lifestyle changes to facilitate growth and transformation. Like many, I became interested in improving my health from my own health struggles. I had open-heart surgery at 10-days old, meaning I was given a plethora of drugs to keep me alive. With my congenital heart condition, I was required to take antibiotics prior to every teeth cleaning appointment up until the age of 10. On top of that I had chronic lung, ear, and sinus infections requiring the use of many antibiotics. To say my gut microbiome was messed up would be an understatement.
My mom always emphasized the importance of eating real, whole-foods, and I grew up eating mostly organic. However, it wasn’t until I was around 15 or 16 that I really saw how the foods I ate made a huge impact on the way I felt. I learned how meditating, journaling, and exercising regularly were the most beneficial things for my stress and anxiety levels and how this played a huge role in how often I was getting sick. Even if I’m eating nutrient dense foods, if I don’t manage my stress levels, I still tend to get sick.
I never liked a one stop approach to health and always wanted to holistically integrate nutrition, lifestyle, and mental health into one. This made it difficult to choose a major during undergrad as I never felt like anything incorporated all areas of health that I found important and interesting. I ended up graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences and a minor in genetics. Post-grad I wanted to learn more about how I could educate others with nutrition, so I enrolled in a transformational nutrition health coaching program. Now, I am getting a Master of Counseling in clinical mental health counseling. I feel like I finally figured out how to marry all the areas of health I love and find important. I hope to share how my love of cooking healthy food, creating healthy habits, and prioritizing mental health can be realistic and fun!
